Growing up I didn’t have a dad to walk beside me and raise me. When I became a dad naturally it was very hard for me to, well, just be a dad. Thankfully God started to tug at my heart about coming back to his path around 2007. I’m not going to tell you that now I’m the greatest dad on earth since that time, but I’m far better than what I was.
One of the tools that God showed me along this journey was his book of proverbs. For me proverbs is God’s instruction manual, if you will, for guidance in raising my kids. He speaks to me directly about what I need to do with my life so I can help my kids. Here’s just a few verses that have guided me along the way.
The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him.
Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge.
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
If one curses his father or his mother, his lamp will be put out in utter darkness.
A man’s steps are from the Lord; how then can man understand his way?
As you can see, straight forward and to the point. If you are looking for guidance from God on what to do with your kids, try opening proverbs. He’ll be more than happy to speak to you.
God bless Dads!
